Body and Soul of Islam:

Today, many Muslim youth have adopted the outward obligations of Islam, praying five times a day, adhering to strict Islamic dress codes and implementing all the fundamental beliefs in their daily lives. They are able to quote readily sections of Qur’an and hadith and implore others to come to the path of Islam. Unfortunately in the midst of reformation, there is often a lack of true understanding of Islam – its heritage and true moral values. These are essential if a balanced way of life is to be lived.

One such misunderstanding is the position of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Islam. Some of the new generation Muslim youth have in essence reduced him to a Prophet alone, who came with a message sent by God. They believe his value lies in the message he brought rather than in the personality itself. Unfortunately this is a misguided and erroneous concept. Perhaps this view is understandable since the original Muslim settlers seemed only to be attached with the personality of the Prophet rather than what he taught. They discussed his life, his personality and wonders rather than implement in their lives the Qur’anic injunctions that were Divinely revealed to him. They claimed to love him dearly and celebrated his birth but failed to act upon his sunnah and to live the way he lived.

Witnessing a dichotomy between belief and actions, sections of the Muslim youth have sought to readdress the balance. Unfortunately they have gone to the other extreme and become unbending. They argue that Islam is based not on love but on obedience alone. They are convinced that the purity of tawheed can only be achieved by eliminating from the faith, love, respect and all emotional attachments with the Holy Prophet. Extreme love and reverence for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) for them has become irrelevant in Islam.

Unfortunately this is an erroneous and misguided view. By maintaining the outward practices and obligations of Islam, but departing from the idea of the fundamental significance of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) they have decentralized religion, belief and practice from the pivot of love of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Consequently this results in the denial of the necessary and final authoritativeness of the sunnah and hadith. By inculcating in the minds of the Muslim youth that love and extreme respect for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is contradictory to the teachings of Islam is a dangerous by product of the recent Islamic resurgence.

Religious practices such as offering prayer, performing hajj, giving zakat, keeping fasts, preaching, and spending in charities comprises the body of Islam. where as the extreme love and reverence of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) constitutes the soul of the body. Both the body and the soul are combined to make a human. A soul can exist without a body as it did in the spiritual world. It exists in the material world and it will continue to exist until the Hereafter. However, a body without a soul cannot exist instead it decays. Similarly our practices and good acts without the love of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) can never be proved to be fruitful, everlasting or rewardable. Like the soul, the love of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), even in its abstract form can remain positive and earn reward. However, it would not be a complete and productive eiman. Although the love of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) helps a man to restore its relation with the body, an enlightened and strong eiman can only be achieved by combining the soul and the body. Religious acts and obligations must be strictly adhered to as well as developing love for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).

May Allah bless us with understanding the position and love for prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), morals of faith and make us momin. A momin complete with body (abiding to obligations of islam and practicing sunnah along with claim of love we make) and soul (of extreme love, honor & respect for prophet peace and blessings be upon him)

Guide to islam in Best and Islamic Way

Guide to islam in Best and Islamic Way, Avoid happy slapping and back biting.

"Invite (all) to the Way of your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for your Rabb knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance." (16:125).

I am sure that everyone has heard of the term "Happy slapping". It is the term used to describe the phenomenon of an individual or group (of teenagers generally), slapping or striking/assaulting others, be it with photos/snap shots or finding faults and revealing to others. One would say that it has nothing to do with Muslims but it seems we are doing something similar in our everyday lives (can be noticed on facebook aswell).

I have constantly noticed that we try to defame/shame other Muslim brothers/sisters or their respected elders whenever we find an opportunity. whenever we get opportunity we make too much voice on telling how to do things properly or telling someone how he is going to end up in hell because his beard is not of particular length or berating one of the sisters because some of her hair is uncovered and of course she will not be able to enter paradise. These "Muslim Happy Slappers" take pride in telling off people and shaking their head in disgust at other Muslims who do not meet their criteria. (and we generally make criteria matching only to our level of following)

Some even go to the extent of shouting and telling that these people will never smell the fragrance of Paradise, etc.

I am not maligning the devotion of brothers/sisters who follow sharia and encourage others, I appreciate their commitment to their faith. At the same time i am not saying that others should not be encouraged to follow sharia but with great humility, not with shouting, berating, lecturing and public humiliation and backbiting.

Allah says "Invite (all) to the Way of your Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for your Rabb knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance." (16:125)

Note that here Allah is referring to everyone and not just non-Muslims. One of the best examples of this would be the story of Hassan (rta) and Hussain (rta), the grandsons of Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

One day an old pious Bedouin came to Medina. At the time of Prayers he began to make ‘wudu’ but he was making his wudu incorrectly. Hassan (rta) and Hussain (rta) saw the old man making ‘wudu’ wrong and they wanted to correct him. They didn’t want to offend him or make him feel insulted, so they came up with a plan. They went to the old man and said, "My brother and I disagree over who amongst us performs ‘wudu’ the best. Would you mind watching us make ‘wudu’, and be the judge to see which one of us indeed performs 'wudu' more correctly? Could you please correct us wherever we are wrong?" The man watched carefully trying to judge who is better. In the end he understood what was going on and said "By Allah, I did not know how to perform ‘wudu’ before this. You have both taught me how to do it correctly."

This incident has been preserved carefully in many Islamic history books as it highlights the way Muslims must behave when they want to correct someone. There are also many verses in Quran and also Hadith that touch this particular topic. For example:

Abu Hurairah (rta) narrated that the Prophet said, "A believer is friendly, and there is no good in one who is neither friendly nor is treated in a friendly way." (Tirmidhi 4995; and Ahmad)

"Kind words and forgiving of faults are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Rich (Free of all wants) and He is most Forbearing." (Quran - 2:263)

"Allah does not love the utterance of evil words in public except by one who has been wronged. Allah is He Who hears and knows all things." (Quran -4:148)

Dear friends the necessity is to guide ourselfs, explore the right teachings of islam and save ummah from false believes/preachers, follow and advice others to follow sharia, which has to be done humbly and in islamic way.

May Allah guide us all to love and follow sharia, sharia way of living and sharia way of advising.
